Sarah Steinbacher

Sarah Steinbacher (she/they) is a disabled nonbinary children's book author and poet who loves writing stories that empower young children for a brighter future. As a former national curriculum writer with an Ed.D. in early childhood education, they are passionate about advocating for children, disabled people, queer folx and inclusive children’s literature.

Sarah is an active member of SCBWI, Inked Voices, and The Writing Barn Courage to Create. In 2026, Boyds Mills (formerly Highlights Foundation) awarded Sarah the Kidlit Pride Scholarship. They also won first place in Vivian Kirkfield's 2026 #50PreciousWords competition. Their poems can be found in Countdown, Orbit, PaperBound, Tyger Tyger, Paper Lanterns, Little Thoughts Press, Parakeet, The Dirigible Balloon, and Knee Brace Press.

Sarah lives near Charlotte, North Carolina with their busy family of five in a house filled with books.
