Andrew Fairchild

Andrew Fairchild is a Houston, Texas–based kidlit author (PB/MG/YA) and award-winning abstract artist known for textured brushstrokes and vibrant color. As a child with dyslexia, Andrew found his way into stories through pictures first—an experience that still shapes the way he writes. A seventh-grade teacher introduced him to poetry, sparking a love of rhythm and language that still shows up in his kidlit. He is a member of SCBWI and Rate Your Story, and a #QueerKidLit mentee. Andrew lives with his daughter, Liah, and his husband, Simon, where

everyday moments—sweet, strange, and occasionally loud—often spark new story ideas. When he’s not writing, Andrew is painting or gardening, two practices that keep him curious about growth, resilience, and beautiful surprises. He’s drawn to character-driven stories with big feelings, hopeful humor, and a sense of wonder.
