When Donna Kurtz was 3-years-old, her mother put her into the stroller once a week and walked fifteen blocks from their apartment to the library. Little Donna toddled home hanging onto the stroller since it was filled with children’s and adult’s books. Whew! Was she ever tired. That’s how she discovered books and words. Now many years later, she co-authors with her brother Paul Kurtz fast-paced, funny PB, MG and chapter books featuring the adventurous kids she always wanted to read about and lyrical stories about nature. She still walks to the library.
Donna has a B.A in English and a B.F.A in Painting from Florida International University and an M.F.A in Painting from the University of Miami. As well as teaching art and humanities at university level, she has taught adult-education creative writing and art in elementary schools. She is a member of SCBWI and active in two mind-blowingly fantastic South Florida SCBWI critique groups.
From the time he laughed at his first nursery rhyme, Paul Kurtz has loved books. He became a dedicated reader and discovered how books sparked his imagination, transporting him through time and space to worlds he never dreamed of. While pursuing careers as an attorney and then videographer, Paul has always made time for books. With co-author and sister Donna Kurtz, Paul writes fast-paced, funny PB, MG and chapter books to encourage reluctant readers to explore the fun of reading. Enjoying hiking, canoeing and snorkeling in the South Florida environment, he and Donna also write books to inspire children’s love of nature and to convey the importance of protecting it.
Paul holds a B.A from the University of Miami in Psychology and a J.D. from Levin Law School at the University of Florida. He is a member of SCBWI and participates in two earth-shatteringly great South Florida SCBWI critique groups.
