Hilary Elizabeth Margitich has always craved a good story. A quiet, creative kid with wild, curly red hair and an equally wild imagination, she could often be found acting out elaborate plotlines with her dolls, her friends, or simply herself. Those stories eventually made their way to the written page, earning creative writing awards and culminating in a beloved stint as Editor-in-Chief of her high school newspaper.
Though no longer what you would consider "quiet," Hilary is still very much an avid storyteller. Her favorite audience these days is her three sons, who fuel and inspire her writing every day. She writes picture books and middle grade fiction, often drawing inspiration from fascinating real-life people, events, and discoveries before weaving research and imagination into stories that spark children's curiosity.
Hilary is the author of two forthcoming narrative nonfiction picture books from Charlesbridge, both publishing in 2029. She has also written several nonfiction children's book series for the educational market on history, STEM, and sports topics.
Hilary earned her Graduate Certificate in Children's Literature from Penn State University and holds both an MBA and a Master of Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University. She writes about children's literature for the Writers' Rumpus blog, and partners with the Reader to Reader Foundation and the kidlit community to help provide books to underserved school libraries across the country.
A lifelong New Englander, Hilary now lives outside Los Angeles with her husband, three sons, and a dog and cat who are roughly the same size.
