Madhuri Messenger

Madhuri writes punny picture books, magic-filled middle-grade, and light-hearted women’s fiction. She lives in rainy Oregon with her husband, three children, and a scaredy-dog. Her manuscripts showcase spunky South Asian characters who share bits of Indian culture.

She has an enduring love of learning. Madhuri attended Wellesley College, Yale University, Harvard Law School, and the University of California Berkeley. Along the way she collected a bachelor of arts, two masters degrees, and a juris doctorate. She worked at a top-tier law firm, at human rights non-profits, and in academia, before figuring out she was happiest writing fiction.

Madhuri received a 12 x 12 scholarship (2023), a We Need Diverse Books Middle Grade Mentorship (2022), the Yuyi Morales Merit Scholarship from Children’s Book Academy (2021), honorable mention in the Oregon Writers Colony Writing Contest (2018), and was selected as a PBParty Finalist (2022). She is an active member of Inked Voices and Yale Women Writers Group and is supported by amazing critique partners.

When she is not writing or managing the schedules of her very active children, she reads. And, if no one is around, she eats cake and sings off-key.
