MeiLin Chan

MeiLin learned English by reading middle grade novels with a dictionary when she moved to California from Hong Kong in the 7th grade. She couldn’t stop reading since. Her writing ranges from board books to YA and she loves writing lyrical, moving stories as well as silly, humorous ones. She has two to-be-announced fiction picture books coming in the next two years.

She was the picture book winner of the 2024 Cynthia Leitich Smith Mentorship Award and a scholarship winner from the Highlights Foundation, 12x12 Picture Book Challenge, and SCBWI Western Washington’s Mentorship Program. Her middle grade novel-in-verse was a 2023 winner of the Tapestry of Voices Award from SCBWI San Francisco North. She graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in Entrepreneurship and Psychology. Outside of kidlit, she’s also a geeky technical marketing writer. Before turning to writing, she installed text-messaging software for Caribbean wireless carriers and ran a novelty mold and soap-making studio. Find out more at www.meilinchan.com.
