Reena Evers-Everette is the daughter of renowned civil rights activists, Medgar Evers and Myrlie Evers-Williams. She was born and raised in Mound Bayou which was known for its progressive stance during the civil rights era.
Reena studied business merchandising at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology. In 1979 she began a 32-year professional career with United Airlines, working in the areas of
government transportation affairs, travel agency training and airport operations.
Reena continues the legacy of her parents’ in the civil rights movement serving as the executive director of the Medgar and Myrlie Evers Institute, located in Jackson, Mississippi. The institute
aims to promote positive social change, foster intergenerational exchanges, and advocates for
social and economic justice.
Additionally, Reena has served as chair of the board of directors of the Claremont Chapter of the American Red Cross and volunteered with the City of Claremont’s Committees on Dialogue and Human Relations. She has been a board member of the MS Votes Action Fund and a W.K. Kellogg Foundation Global Community Leadership Fellow.
When she is not fulfilling her various speaking engagements or serving on boards, Reena enjoys splitting her time between Mississippi and California, where she cherishes spending time with her loved ones, including her mother Myrlie Evers-Williams, who, at 90 years old, continues to
be a fierce advocate for social justice for all.
