Sonya Justice

Sonya Justice is a Cameroonian-American writer and intensive care nurse who grew up in coastal Africa. Always one to think outside the box, Sonya writes concept picture books as well as traditional fiction and non-fiction books for children. Her stories are intricately woven in the tapestry of the African culture: its people, food/music, creatures, drapery, diaspora, and enchanting lore. Her children’s books have a lyrical cadence that’s inspired by the alluring sights, sounds, and scents of America and the African continent.

Passionate about environmental conservation, she’s written and published several “Go Green” articles in Fabulous Nurse Magazine (2010-2014) and continues to champion green conservation efforts at the hospitals where she works. Interesting fact: From 2013-2015, Sonya leveraged her clinical acumen and business degree to host / produce a cable TV show to promote the nursing profession and deliver essential public health information.
Interesting quirk: Her name, Sonya Justice, is an anagram created from her deceased parents’ names to memorialize them.

Favorite quote about writing: “If there is a book you want to read, but it has not been written yet, then you must write it,” Toni Morrison.

Sonya lives and writes in the Pacific Northwest. When not healing or exploring the beautiful outdoors, she can be found at beach clean ups, playing tennis, riding, or curled up with a good book.
